HAZRAT SULTAN BAHU Selected Poems. Translation & Introduction Paul Smith Sultan Bahu (1629-1691) was a Sufi Master and poet who founded the Sarwari Qadiri order. Like many other Sufis of the Indian sub-continent Sultan Bahu was a prolific writer. However, it is his Punjabi poetry that made him a household name. His poems are sung in many genres of Sufi music, including
qawalis and
kafis. His Persian
ghazals are not well-known but are of equal significance. Both in this collection are well-represented. His mausoleum is located in Garh Maharaja, Punjab, Pakistan. He authored over one hundred and thirty works and treatises, mainly on Sufism.
