Little Maid of Old Philadelphia

In 1778, young Ruth Pennell shared the same wish as all children in Philadelphia: to help their hero, the gallant Marquis de Lafayette. Despite Ruth and her friends' fervent patriotism, there seemed to be no chance for a 10-year-old girl to aid the brave Frenchman quartered with General Washington in Valley Forge. How Ruth defied the odds to aid Lafayette makes for an inspiring tale of Revolutionary times.

Written in 1919, this story is unabridged with updated spelling and punctuation. Illustrated in 1955 by Sandra James, who did the cover and seven full-page illustrations.
