Is Jesus God? Does God exist? Why are there so many Christian denominations? Are people even reading the same Bible?
Sparks fly when Oxford University students Eric Hansen and Maria Menklin banter their way through Christian scriptural teachings under the tutelage of their beloved professor of divinity.
Richard M. Calkins's first book in The Apology Trilogy The Apology: A Study of the Christian Religion is a fictional interchange tackling tough questions and challenging age-old beliefs about what it means to follow in Jesus's footsteps. Calkins methodically lays out both sides of each argument, as in a court of law, and leaves the verdict to be decided by the reader.
Just as the wise professor guides his questioning students, Calkins hopes that The Apology will trigger empathy in believers and non-believers alike for what it means to be a Christian. At the least he hopes The Apology will inspire readers to dust off their Bibles and experience the Word for themselves anew.
