Description

Synopsis: Environmental Therapy is a book which shows different approaches outdoors to helping children and young people who have experienced traumatic life experiences of abuse and neglect. This focuses on two key environments, the seashore and the local park, and how they can be used to help children process what has happened to them. This often can involve role play and the use of visual imagery around them. However, the book also explores other approaches including outdoor activities, local environments familiar to the young person, and the use of animals. All of these approaches use past working experiences or case studies with young people.

Autobiography: The author works as a counsellor with a local authority children's psychology and post-abuse service, specializing in assisting children and young people who have experienced traumatic abuse and neglect, often in natural or wild environments. He also has a private counselling practice to help adults dealing with various life traumas and is registered and accredited by the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) in the UK, and registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psycotherapy (BACP). He previously worked as a special needs teacher for 20 years, with a master's degree in Special Educational Needs, before qualifying as a Professional Counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB; Level 4) in the UK. He is also qualified in the field of Outdoor Pursuits in Mountain leadership and as a Canoe and Kayak Instructor.
