In a world filled with uncertainty, for those who trust in Christ Jesus and the finished work on the Cross, the Word of God is the only source of comfort and directionality. Many who profess to be Christians do not know or experience the significance of the Bible they hold in their hands. If God is our creator, then Bible is the manual of our life. It contains all the manufacturer's instructions to run life peacefully and joyfully.
The Sermon on the Mount is such a fundamental scripture that can guide us in practical Biblical living. Jesus not only teaches the basic tenets of living a Godly life but also clarifies the nuances of living a life pleasing unto God. Jesus expounds on some of the misunderstood, misinterpreted, and mistaught scriptures from the Torah and the Old Testament. He also dispels certain lies and half-truths such as the allegations that Jesus came to abolish the law.
By meditating on the Sermon on the Mount, verse by verse, we can learn quite a lot about Biblical living. I have been preaching the three chapters, chapters 5, 6 & 7, from the Gospel according to Matthew, every week for almost a year, if not more. Yes, that was not a typo - 3 chapters, 111 verses and it took almost a year. And I still sometimes feel, we can meditate more. Such is the depth of God's Word. This book is a small effort executed with God's grace, wisdom, and strength to meditate and understand the Word of God.
