Adam Roberts is your typical college professor: smart, unassuming, and dedicated to his work. Everything changes when his house is set on fire and he almost dies as a result. Once he discovers who tried to kill him, his plan for revenge is set in motion. Unfortunately for him, his plan is thrown into chaos when he meets Grace Lavenza.

Grace has married Victor Frankenstein, her childhood best friend, despite not having romantic feelings for him. She has no idea of the horrible crimes Victor has committed and lives in blissful ignorance of his true nature. She's resigned herself to this marriage out of guilt and hopes that one day, she will fall in love with her new husband. Fortunately for her, her plan goes out the window when she meets Adam Roberts.
