The Emperor Caracalla is feared throughout the Roman Empire as a cold and cruel tyrant. Yet when he travels with his Legions to conquer the Barbarian tribes in Germania, Caracalla encounters a young healer who refuses to be subjugated to his will. For Gelvira, who has spent her life dedicated in service to the goddess who guides and nurtures her people, this Roman Emperor fills her with both fear and desire as she feels a connection to him that cannot be explained.
