Caes and Crislan Wind are teenagers in the Cragwoods, a heavily forested country in a land where everyone has some limited magical capabilities, but few are true magic users. In the Cragwoods, people live in houses built in the trees to keep safe from dangerous creatures and plants on the ground. There are several occupations, but the most prestigious are riders and rangers. Rangers hunt, fish, and protect travelers and anyone else who needs to be on the ground. Riders tame and fly on giant raptors called rocs.
The two brothers are training to be riders when tragedy strikes. Caes finds himself lost in the forest, far from his village, and surrounded by intimidating peaks, hungry shadow cats, and stealthy crawling maneater plants, he needs to use all his skill and luck to try and find his way back home.
Wind and the Rocs is a story of teens approaching adulthood, family, love, and survival when all seems hopeless.
