Detective Adam Slate lives by facts and logic. In his career, he has always figured out the how of every crime he investigated. Until he walked into a living room with a ripped apart body and no clues as to how the perpetrator got into the house, let alone committed the crime. All he has is a hunch and a rumor about a skinny little nobody with a questionable lifestyle.

Running from an unknown threat as well as a detective with very little compassion for someone like herself, Kaylen finds the perfect place where someone with all her unique problems will fit right in.
