Diary of a Confused Educator

Diary of a Confused Educator charts the journey of Ashanti Branch-award-winning teacher, mentor and founder of the Ever Forward Club and #theMillionMask Movement-over the past two decades. When Ashanti began teaching math in Oakland high schools, he thought getting students to study pass tests would be the his biggest challenge. Instead, he discovered something deeper: a system that left too many young people feeling unseen, unheard and unsupported.

This is a book about about the young men and women, and the lessons that shaped Ashanti's path from overwhelmed educator to global change maker. Through humour, compassion and vulnerability, he recounts trying to meet his students where they are-beyond the masks they wear to hide their true selves.

It shows us what happens when one person dares to listen, to connect, and to believe that every young person deserves a space in which they are safe enough to discover, and be, themselves.
